Horus is the
Egyptian Falcon-God. During his contendings with his Uncle Seth
he lost his left eye, which represented the moon. It was restored
by the goddess Isis.
Horus gave the restored eye to his father, Osiris, who then ate
it. Sometimes called the udjat eye, which means sound, it came
to symbolize the general process of "making whole" and
healing. It was a very popular amulet in ancient Egypt.
